The smallsat revolution and major advances in network management technology have had an unintended consequence: the birth of teleport operating companies that own little infrastructure of their own. Through multiple partnerships, fiber links and advanced network management platforms, they aggregate demand from customers and leverage the capital investments of teleport and satellite operators to meet it. In practice, they can be both competitors for customer relationships and strategic partners bringing new revenue to facilities-based operators. For The Virtual Teleport, WTA talks with ground-segment-as-a-service providers, facilities-based teleport operators and satellite operators about this new business model, its benefits and downsides, and how it may change the rules of the game for traditional teleport operators. Speakers include: Gregory Quiggle, Vice President, Product Management, Kratos; Sean McDaniel, CEO, ATLAS Space Operations; Will Mudge, Vice President, Engineering Operations, Speedcast; and Katherine Monson, CEO, KSAT USA.
