Ovzon Strengthens Swedish Defense Partnership with 58 MSEK Terminal Order

December 18, 2025

Ovzon has officially announced the receipt of a significant supplementary order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), further deepening the strategic relationship between the SATCOM provider and the Swedish government.

This latest agreement, valued at 58 MSEK—approximately 6.1 million USD—focuses on the provision of additional mobile satellite terminals designed to bolster the Swedish Armed Forces’ tactical communication capabilities.

The delivery of these advanced terminals is scheduled to take place during the first half of 2026. This procurement is not an isolated transaction but rather a critical expansion of the existing infrastructure support Ovzon provides to FMV. These mobile terminals are engineered for seamless integration with Ovzon’s current satellite network services, ensuring that Swedish defense forces maintain high-throughput, reliable connectivity even in the most contested or remote operational theaters.

Resiliency of Ovzon 3 Technology

One of the most technically significant aspects of this order is the hardware’s compatibility with the Ovzon 3 satellite’s unique On-Board Processor. Unlike traditional satellite architectures that require a constant link to a ground-based “gateway” or hub to relay data, the Ovzon 3 On-Board Processor allows for direct terminal-to-terminal communication. This capability effectively removes a potential point of failure and significantly reduces latency, providing a level of resiliency that is paramount for modern military operations.

By utilizing this indigenous satellite technology, the FMV ensures that its communication loops remain autonomous and secure. The ability to function independently of ground-based infrastructure is a game-changer for mobile units that must operate in environments where terrestrial networks are either non-existent or have been compromised. This decentralized approach to satellite communication aligns with the broader global trend of seeking “sovereign” and “resilient” space-based assets to protect national security interests.

A Long-Term Strategic Commitment

This latest order serves as a major addendum to the landmark 1.04 billion SEK contract signed between Ovzon and FMV in May 2025. That foundational agreement established a multi-year framework for satellite capacity and managed services, positioning Ovzon as a primary provider for Sweden’s mission-critical SATCOM needs. The fact that this is the second supplementary order for terminals within a short timeframe underscores the rapid adoption and increasing reliance on Ovzon’s proprietary technology within the Swedish defense ecosystem.

Per Norén, the CEO of Ovzon, noted that this continued investment is the result of a very close, iterative collaboration with the customer. He emphasized that by working directly with FMV to understand the nuances of their operational requirements, Ovzon has been able to refine its SATCOM solutions to meet the specific demands of high-stakes environments. According to Norén, this order confirms the strength of their long-term partnership and reinforces Ovzon’s specialized role in providing robust, high-performance communications for users who cannot afford a loss of connectivity.

As the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve, particularly in the Nordic region, the demand for secure and mobile satellite solutions is expected to grow. This 58 MSEK order not only represents a financial win for Ovzon but also highlights the company’s pivotal role in the modernization of Sweden’s national defense infrastructure.

With the Ovzon 3 satellite now active and providing specialized capabilities like the On-Board Processor, the company is well-positioned to continue its trajectory as a leader in the high-end, mobile SATCOM market.
