AST SpaceMobile performed well after the company ran tests for voice, video, and data over a standard smartphone. This success enables AST to partner with Bell Canada and prepares for Canadian direct-to-device distribution (D2D) of its signals.
The technology goal is to provide coverage in remote areas and is expected to be commercially launched by 2026, improving service in hard-to-reach regions and supporting industries such as mining and agriculture.

After receiving the appropriate government approvals the two companies plan to provide seamless satellite connectivity across Canada’s remote areas supporting industries like mining and agriculture and is expected to lead to the planned deployment of a direct-to-cell service in 2026.
Additionally, AST filed a lobbying registration in Canada in November to obtain regulatory approval and for the use of L-band spectrum for its D2D service that is necessary for the company to be able to use it’s Ligado L-Band North American rights in Canada (and also over the U.S.).
