Blue Origin’s 1st Blue Ring mission to demo SDA with Scout Space sensor

Blue Origin has agreed with Scout Space to integrate one of its flagship, next-generation, space domain awareness (SDA) Owl sensors onboard the first mission of Blue Ring, the company’s highly maneuverable, multi-mission spacecraft for payload delivery, hosting and infrastructure services.

Blue Ring’s first mission is expected to launch in the spring of 2026 with initial injection into Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO), with additional services performed in Geostationary Orbit (GEO).

Blue Ring is a multi-mission, multi-destination vehicle providing full-service payload delivery, hosting, and end-to-end mission operations. The vehicle’s architecture promotes mission-unique adaption to meet a variety of customer and mission needs in GEO, xGEO, Cislunar, Mars, and beyond. The spacecraft has industry-leading capabilities, including a nominal delta-V of at least 3,000m/s (with a max of 4,000m/s) enabled by electric and chemical propulsion systems. The spacecraft is capable of supporting up to 4,000 kg of payload capacity across 13 ports, and has powerful on-board edge computing and processing capabilities enabling flexible mission design.

This mission highlights a unique combination of Blue Ring’s dynamic maneuverability and on-orbit services, in concert with Owl sensor’s ability to detect and track satellites, debris, and other resident space objects at long distance from some of the most demanding operating environments.

Scout’s Owl sensor is designed to enhance real-time tracking, characterization, and assessment of space objects by integrating advanced optical sensing, onboard artificial intelligence-driven processing, and autonomous decision-making capabilities to deliver domain-wide intelligence in space in support of the U.S. Space Force’s space control mission set. The sensor is part of Scout’s Owl product line. By integrating the sensor onto Blue Ring, the spacecraft autonomously monitors and assesses resident space objects, introducing an enhanced SDA capability to the GEO domain.
