China to launch ‘unknown payload(s)’ on Monday and Tuesday

On Monday, September 23 at 7:30 PM – 8:52 PM PDT China Rocket Co. Ltd. will launch unknown cargo on Smart Dragon 3 from Haiyang Spaceport which has witnessed the launch of 2 rockets, including 2 orbital launch attempts, while Sea Launch, has been the site for 52 rocket launches.

China Rocket Co. Ltd. is a spinoff of China’s state-owned launch vehicle manufacturer using a “commercial business model”.

Smart Dragon-3 is a solid fuel orbital rocket designed by a subsidiary of the state-owned CASC group built for the commercial market.

The forecast calls for a temperature of 72°F, clear skies, 0% cloud cover and a wind speed of 4mph

On Tuesday, September 24 at 4:35 PM – 4:50 PM PDT CAS Space’s Kinetica 1 will launch an unknown payload on this Chinese solid-propellant light launch vehicle capable of placing approximately 2 tons into low Earth orbit and 1.5 tons into sun-synchronous orbit. It is developed by CAS Space, a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. CAS Space is a spin-off company from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) that is operating and plans to operate various launch vehicles of the Zhongke series.

Kinetica 1’s first stage is believed to be derived from the DF-31 long-range intercontinental ballistic missile. It is 30 m high and has a diameter of 2.65 m, with a liftoff mass of 135 t, and is the largest Chinese solid propellant launcher to date, with four stages with a thrust of 200, 100, 50 and 10 tons respectively. The fairing has a diameter of 3.35 meters.

The launch will take place at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, People’s Republic of China. Launch Area 130 has witnessed the launch of 3 rockets, including 3 orbital launch attempts, while Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, People’s Republic of China, has been the site for 229 rocket launches.
