Xenesis appoints new Chairman of the Board

July 8, 2024

Phil Bentley

Xenesis, an optical communications company that is developing a scalable and secure space to ground data backhauling mesh network, has appointed Phil Bentley as the company’s Chairman of the Board as of May 2024 — Mr. Bentley has more than 25 years of Board level experience in major, UK listed companies.

Currently, Mr. Bentley serves as the CEO of Mitie Group Plc, the UK’s leading facilities management provider employing over 68,000 individuals. Prior to that, he was the Group Chief Executive Officer of Cable & Wireless Communications plc and Managing Director of British Gas, while the earlier part of Phil’s career was spent at BP in international roles in the US, China and Egypt, and Diageo. Mr. Bentley holds a Master’s degree from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau.

“With the support of US Government and the current funding raise, Xenesis’s satellite laser technology is poised to bring cheaper and faster connectivity to all, without the prohibitive expense of fiber rollout,” said Bentley. “I hope my international Telecom and large public company fund raising experience can help guide Xenesis through its next round of seed funding and the launch of our equipment onto the International Space Station (ISS) in 2025.”

Xenesis fills a growing need for a data agnostic, end-to-end capacity to capture and deliver large quantities of data faster and more securely than current fiber networks and free from terrestrial limitations like zoning, environmental, and terrain restrictions. Their free space optical communications (FSOC) solution leverages the industry-leading Xen-Hub operating hardware. The Xenesis Xen-Hub simultaneously transmits and receives data, and provides a narrower, more focused image transmission able to deliver higher data rates to smaller, more affordable ground terminals – a feature of keen interest to government and commercial stakeholders across the globe, including underserved regions and markets.
