WTA’s Tier 4 certification of Hispasat’s Lurín (Peru) teleport

October 30, 2023

The World Teleport Association (WTA) has announced that Hispasat has achieved Tier 4 certification of their Lurín Teleport outside Lima, Peru, under WTA’s Teleport Certification Program.

The Lurín certification marks the 53rd issued since the program was launched at IBC 2015, and another 11 teleports are currently engaged in the quality evaluation process. The program provides transparent, independently verified standards as a means for teleports to differentiate themselves and for customers to choose the price-performance level suitable for their applications.

Certification is issued on a Provisional (self-reported) basis after completion of a +170-item questionnaire that is evaluated against standards developed by WTA’s Certification Committee. The teleport then has six months to achieve Full Certification. To achieve Full Certification under WTA’s program, an auditor is dispatched to visit the teleport, provide independent validation of the data submitted in the questionnaire, and identify additional factors that may positively or negatively affect the score. Full Certification is issued at a Tier number from 1 through 4, of which 4 represents the highest degree of excellence, and remains in effect for 3 years.

Certifications have been issued to teleports operated by IABG Teleport, A1 Telekom Austria Group, Gomedia Satcom, Azercosmos, Speedcast, Servicio Satelital, USEI, AXESS Networks, STN, Eutelsat, du, COMSAT, e&, Optus, Horizon Teleports, RADIOCOM, Talia, Telespazio, Vivacom, Cyta, PlanetCast, Singtel, Globecast, Stellar-PCS, Hellas Sat, Orange, Hawaii Pacific Teleport, Intelsat, SMS, Telstra, Primacom, Santander Teleport and Arqiva.

“We are very proud to have achieved such a demanding certification as the TIER 4 of the World Teleport Association, a milestone that strengthens our leadership position in Latin America. Our Lurín teleport is undoubtedly one of the most advanced in the region and allows us to offer a guaranteed service to both our customers and other operators who may need support in their ground segment activities.” — Luis Alejandro Higa, Video Operations and Technology Manager at Hispasat

“Hispasat has a special place among satellite operators,” said executive director Robert Bell, “acting as a bridge between Europe, North Africa and North and South America. Its services run the gamut from broadcast to internet access, cellular backhaul and mobility services, including major digital inclusion programs. WTA is proud to begin adding their ground segment to our global list of Certified teleports. It is now a maturing industry, even as new entrants continue to appear, and it is quickly adopting the Independent, standards-based evaluation and validation offered by the WTA Certification program.” Robert Bell, Executive Director, World Teleport Association

WTA’s Teleport Certification Program serves both teleport operators and their customers by creating an objective, transparent, and internationally accepted method for teleport operators to document the quality of their operations for customers and strategic partners. It also provides a means for customers to select teleport vendors delivering the price-performance level that is appropriate for their applications. Select this link for a list of certified teleports.
