Celebrating 50 years of successful operations plus a name change from Signalhorn to the LEUK Teleport & Data Center

September 1, 2022

Signalhorn has revealed that, following a strategic business review, the company’s name is changing to LEUK Teleport & Data Centre (LEUK) to better reflect the future direction of the company.

Founded in 1972, the flagship teleport facility in Leuk, Switzerland, is now embarking on a number of infrastructure developments that include a unique project which, by transforming the existing infrastructure with large scale solar arrays, including equipping a number of communications antennas with solar panels, will deliver a genuinely green operation with 100% solar and hydroelectric power for the satellite and data center customers.

With visibility of dozens of satellites — from 55W to 70E — as well as robust terrestrial connectivity, Leuk is trusted to provide resilient connectivity services to both government and commercial sectors, including connectivity to a large volume of superyacht customers. The company has long standing alliances with some of the world’s leading satellite operators that include SES, Intelsat and Eutelsat, among others. LEUK is now developing the company’s ground infrastructure to support the future of multi-orbit networking from GEO, MEO and LEO satellites.

Leuk’s highly secure facility exceeds the physical and cybersecurity standards set by multiple European governments and financial institutions. Services via Leuk are protected from 5G interference by the Swiss telecom regulators with added natural protection across all frequency bands, due to local topography. The facility is, therefore, ideal as a backup facility, disaster recovery and redundancy solution for government & enterprise customers.

Leuk’s communications infrastructure also includes a highly secure, state-of-the-art, Data Center and, since 2020, the company has invested significantly in the firm’s capabilities, with diverse fiber connectivity into the heart of Europe’s internet backbone from a uniquely provisioned and private facility. Situated under the teleport, the Data Centre provides 5000m² of data storage with unrivaled, connectivity to primary cloud providers from Azure, AWS and others.

John Harris, CEO of LEUK Teleport & Data Center, said, “Our track record in serving organisations from SME’s to blue chip companies, alongside Governments and NGO’s has earned us a loyal and long-standing customer base. As we say goodbye to the Signalhorn brand we would like to thank all our customers and partners for trusting our company with their critical communications and we are committed to continuing to provide outstanding satellite and data connectivity solutions as LEUK evolves and grows into Europe’s first 100% green and secure teleport and data centre. We look forward to innovating with you for 50 more years and beyond”.

Simon Gatty Saunt, Vice President Sales, Europe at SES, said, “Congratulations on 50 years of excellence! We are very impressed with the move to transform LEUK into a sustainable green energy operation and with the arrival of our mPOWER satellites in 2023, we are really looking forward to expanding our partnership with connectivity solutions enhanced by our new MEO constellation.”

Sergio Milesi, President of the Swiss Data Centre Association (SDCA) and CEO of Gas & Com, said, “Congratulations on reaching 50 years of serving customers! We are delighted to partner with LEUK TDC and to support their growth in the Swiss data centre market. The unique location and the will to invest are a guarantee that the data center LEUK TDC will be the “data gateway to the world” for the people of Valais and the surrounding regions”.
