ST Engineering Geo-Insights Signs MoU With The National University Of Singapore

February 24, 2021

ST Engineering has announced that the company’s Earth Observation (EO) and geospatial analysis business, ST Engineering Geo-Insights, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP) on the joint research and development, and commercialization of advanced remote sensing technologies and geospatial imagery analytics solutions.

These have global commercial applications in enabling smart and sustainable cities especially in areas such as urban planning, mega infrastructure development, maritime safety and security, environmental monitoring, as well as agricultural growth tracking.

Under the MOU, both parties will co-develop advanced remote sensing solutions leveraging CRISP’s unique intellectual properties, artificial intelligence and big data analytics, and collaborate on the commercialization of these solutions in Singapore and in overseas markets. In addition, a geospatial imagery data hub will be set up to provide satellite imagery access to a wider pool of geospatial developers. This will help to accelerate the development of novel geospatial platforms and applications, and foster a vibrant local geospatial ecosystem.

“With more satellites being launched fueling a growing variety and volume of satellite data, coupled with increasing complexities in business and operational environments, demand for advanced satellite imagery data analytics and algorithm developments that deliver more powerful business insights is on the rise all over the world. This collaboration will leverage the combined expertise of both ST Engineering Geo-Insights and CRISP to accelerate the development and commercialisation of leading-edge and differentiated analytics solutions that will not only address global market needs but will place us at the forefront of industry,” said Goh Ing Nam, General Manager of ST Engineering Geo-Insights.

“CRISP has been at the forefront of satellite imagery research and applications for nearly 30 years. Our research team has collaborated with international and local research institutes contributing towards the advancement of science and technology in satellite imagery applications. CRISP’s study and use of satellite data for environmental monitoring has gained international recognition and acclaim in areas such as forest fires, oil spill and natural disasters. This collaboration with ST Engineering Geo-Insights is another significant milestone in the transition of our research into practical commercial solutions for Singapore, regional and international markets,” said Kwoh Leong Keong, Director of CRISP, NUS.

“Singapore is home to a vibrant space ecosystem, with more than 50 companies employing over 1,000 professionals, complemented by several research centres of excellence. The collaboration between ST Engineering Geo-Insights and CRISP showcases how industry players can work together to develop innovative services and solutions that can be scaled out of Singapore. We look forward to the forging of more of such partnerships, to enhance our geospatial analytics capabilities and strengthen the local space ecosystem,” said David Tan, Executive Director of Singapore’s national space office, the Office for Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn).
