The Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) announces new members

June 25, 2023

The Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) has welcomed Hispasat as a full member, Cobham Satcom as an Associate member, Atheras Analytics as a Startup Member and John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory as an Academic member.

SIG is a membership organization that aims to enhance innovation and foster collaboration in the satellite communication industry. Its objective is to improve operational efficiency and minimize negative impact. SIG provides a platform for industry operators and manufacturers to exchange ideas, discuss challenges and opportunities, and explore technical aspects of industry efficiencies.

  • Hispasat, a driver of innovation in the Spanish aerospace sector, has re-joined to become a full member of SIG. Committed to bridging the digital divide and promoting sustainable development, Hispasat is a key provider of broadband and connectivity services between Europe and America.
  • Cobham Satcom has more than four decades of experience in Satellite communication technology and has joined SIG as an Associate member. Cobham Satcom delivers cutting-edge, accurate, multi-orbit, active tracking antennas for diverse applications across land, maritime, fixed, and mobile platforms, including GEO, LEO, and MEO satellites. Its systems provide business and mission-critical connectivity to service providers, enterprises, and government customers.
  • Atheras Analytics, a startup member of SIG, has developed a suite of AI-based, SaaS-delivered software tools for designing and operating Ka- and Q/V-band HTS gateways and networks to mitigate the effects of weather and maximise network and service availability. These networks play a crucial role in delivering HTS services globally. Dr. Charilaos Kourogiorgas, CTO of Atheras Analytics, said, “The SIG workshops provide an invaluable opportunity for us to engage with satellite and ground network operators alike to help us understand the challenges they are facing and optimise our software tools to meet these challenges.”
  • Joining SIG as an Academic member, John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory brings a rich history of serving as a valued resource to the government as the nation’s largest university affiliated research centre providing a deep expertise in specialized fields to support national priorities and technology development programs while also ensuring the reliability of complex technologies that safeguard our nation’s security and advance the frontiers of space.

“We are delighted to be part of the Satcoms Innovation Group community once again. Attending its workshops gives our operators the opportunity to discuss industry issues with each other, as well as the manufacturers, and help us overcome these challenges together.” — Raul Concha, Network Operations Engineer from Hispasat

“Being a member of the Satcom Innovation Group allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by the SATCOM industry. By understanding these challenges, we can actively contribute to finding solutions.” — Bob Potter, Head of Development, Cobham Satcom

“The success of the Satcoms Innovation Group very much relies on input from our members. The more expertise we can foster, the more we can collaboratively work towards solving current and future challenges, and nurturing innovation. These new members will all further enrich our collaborative efforts.” — Helen Weedon, Managing Director, SIG

SIG is hosting its next workshop at QuadSAT’s headquarters on 28th and 29th June 28th and 29th — for more information or to register, please visit this direct link…
