We salute the past, present and future fallen heroes — those whose sacrifices make it possible for us to gather at picnics, protest at events, or gather in a place of worship without fear of reprisal.
We also salute those whose sacrifice was a loved one.
The deaths of husbands and wives, fiancées and fiancés, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, grandsons and granddaughters, a dear family friend — these folks are denied sharing a life with someone special — someone whose life was cut short far too early.
