Orbital Transports ties in with the Red Hat Partner ecosystem

August 11, 2022

Orbital Transports has joined the Red Hat partner ecosystem, offering customers and solution builders in the smallsat industry greater confidence when building next-generation smallsat applications using Red Hat technologies.

As a Red Hat Ready Partner, Orbital Transports will offer Red Hat solutions — such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat OpenStack Platform — through the SmallSat Catalog for customers interested in building smallsat-based edge computing solutions for space.

Smallsats have a lot in common with IoT devices as both are typically resource-constrained, embedded systems that operate autonomously in harsh, inaccessible environments that have various types of sensors collecting data and transmitting that info back to a central data repository for processing. There’s a movement toward placing more powerful computing elements aboard satellites and performing more detailed analysis of the data being collected on board before transmitting it to the ground.

Red Hat provides open source solutions that address the dynamic needs of networks of IoT systems where compute and storage are distributed across a large number of locations closer to data sources. Orbital Transports will support the deployment of these solutions into smallsats and space constellations.

Red Hat works across a robust ecosystem of solution providers, independent software vendors, systems integrators and more to deliver innovative open source solutions. Red Hat Ready Partners are verified to resell Red Hat technology combined with their expertise and services to design, plan, and deploy industry leading open source and edge computing solutions. Through comprehensive sales and technical training, exceptional marketing and sales tools, and reliable technical support, Red Hat Ready Partners are fully enabled to deliver innovative, open-source technology and valued expertise.

Orbital Transports is bringing the smallsat supply chain online with the SmallSat Catalog, a digital portal showcasing products and services from some of the industry’s most innovative and reliable companies. The first resource of its kind, the SmallSat Catalog is your one-stop shop marketplace for smallsat missions.

The catalog features cubesat and smallsat buses, COTS nanosatellite hardware components, ground station services and mission operations software, orbital transfer services, hosted payloads, and satellite servicing and refueling technologies. The SmallSat Catalog provides a convenient go-to resource to manage all your smallsat mission supply chain needs.

“As a Red Hat Ready Partner, we’re thrilled to be working with Red Hat to support the development of edge computing applications in space,” said David Hurst, CEO, Orbital Transports. “We already offer several high-performance computing platforms in the SmallSat Catalog, with more in the pipeline. Adding Red Hat solutions to the Catalog will take the opportunities for edge computing in space to the next level.”

“We are excited to work with Orbital Transports as part of the Red Hat partner ecosystem,” said Chris Gray, Vice President, North America Partner Ecosystem, Red Hat. “We are committed to offering customers and developers a broad choice of edge computing solutions for space, and key to that vision is building a strong ecosystem of partners that can enable users to build and deploy the best applications possible. We look forward to continued collaboration with Orbital Transports as they grow their edge offerings with Red Hat.”

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Orbital Transports delivers complete smallsat programs, from initial concept through completed mission. The company handles end-to-end space logistics by managing complex operations involving the space vehicles, human resources, facilities, and services required for successful space missions. In addition to space logistics, Orbital Transports provides the SmallSat Catalog, a one-stop shop for all smallsat supply chain needs.
