IQ spacecom presenting radio comms solutions for smallsats @ ILA 2022

June 20, 2022

IQ spacecom is going to present further developments of the company’s state-of-the-art radio communication solutions at ILA 2022 in Berlin which is in session from June 22-26.

IQ spacecom has been offering a comprehensive product range for satellite radio communication solutions made in Germany that enable flexible and highly efficient broadband data communication for smallsats, such as the advanced SDR (Software Defined Radio) platform, XLink.

IQ spacecom will be present at the German Center for Satellite Communications (DeSK), booth number 432, in hall ILA 6, and will present further developments of their well-established solutions and to announce some groundbreaking news.

Seamless connection between space and ground: IQ spacecom’s XLink in combination with WORK Microwave’s AX-60 modem

One and a half years ago, IQ spacecom initiated cooperation with WORK Microwave, another DeSK member, and both companies recently agreed to further intensify their cooperation. One achievement of this partnership is one of the world’s first, end-to-end, cubesat solutions supporting satellite communications for ground and space segments.

Experts from IQ spacecom and WORK Microwave will be on hand at ILA to demonstrate how customers can benefit from this fully-featured bidirectional communication system with a seamless connection between IQ spacecom’s XLink SDR platform and WORK Microwave’s AX-60 IP ground modem. XLink is an advanced transceiver system for X- and S-band smallsat communication links with a flight grade tested, low-cost, COTS design. The compact 0.2 U sized XLink, that perfectly fits into a 1U cubesat as well as larger satellites, is characterized by robust and high-rate signal modulation techniques that provide best bandwidth efficiency: downlink/telemetry and payload of up to 100 Mbps and an uplink/telecommand of up to 256 kbps. A Gigabit Ethernet is provided as on-board control and high-speed data interface.

The XLink advanced transceiver system now also supports DVB-S2 in addition to CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems Communications) protocols. This further development enables the transmission of higher data rates at very low bandwidth, especially in S-band. Both protocols are fully compatible with WORK Microvawe’s AX-60 modem, making the bundle even more flexible.

XLink as well as the 19-inch rack-mount modem provide easy-to-use, straightforward connectivity. Direct connection from the highly customizable platform to Rx and Tx antennas is enabled by the fully integrated RF front end. The antennas for this solution are also provided by IQ spacecom. The cost-effective X- and S-band single, dual and quad patch antennas have a flight proven design for smallsat applications.

During the ILA trade event, IQ spacecom will introduce another groundbreaking solution where the firm’s customizable XLink SDR platform will, again, play a central role.
