Maxar collected new satellite imagery on February 8th, 2021 of the large protests underway in Yangon, Myanmar and the aftermath of last week’s military coup.
The imagery shows large crowds of people assembled at and near the Yangon City Hall and Sule Pagoda, near the Myanmar Radio and TV center, at the Hledan Centre and along many streets in the capital city.
Some security forces can be seen assembled next to the City Hall controlling access to the area.
According to the South China Morning Post
“The Hong Kong protests began in 2019 in opposition to a proposed extradition law that would have allowed the transfer of fugitives to mainland China, among other jurisdictions. The demonstrations escalated into a much wider and prolonged anti-government movement that resulted in increasingly violent clashes between protesters and police across the city. The social unrest continues to simmer amid the coronavirus pandemic that has shut down parts of the city.“
