January 21, 2021

Space Micro has announced David Hansen will join the firm’s senior management team as Director, Radiation Effects and Hardening.

Dr. David Hansen

Dr. Hansen is a world-renowned expert in naturally occurring and manmade radiation effects found in defense, civil and commercial space programs. During his 20+ year career, he has published more than 50 papers and his research covers radiation effects on a variety of technologies, as well as the development of models to predict those effects on-orbit.

Dr. Hansen will share his expertise at the upcoming 2021 SmallSat Symposium, February 8-11, 2021. His Tech Brief presentation on Small Satellite Architecture for COTS Utilization is scheduled for February 9th at 1:00 p.m. PST.

Dr. Hansen joins Space Micro having previously worked at Data Device Corporation, Maxwell Technologies, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and The Boeing Company, where he was an Associate Technical Fellow.

Dr. Hansen earned his Ph.D. in Physics from University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), an M.S. in Physics from UNLV and a B.S. in Physics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

“Dave adds tremendous depth to our understanding of space and missile radiation effects, which is a core competency at Space Micro. This will enable our company to further expand in the fast-growth space industry, where survivability of space assets is key,” said Space Micro CEO David J. Strobel.

“Space Micro has a fantastic reputation for developing reliable, innovative solutions for satellite systems. I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the team that has delivered over two million hours of flawless flight time,” said Dr. Hansen.
