U.S. Senate Hearing To Determine Candidate’s Suitability To Lead U.S. Space Command

The United States Senate Committee on Armed Services will be holding hearings today, July 28, at 1430 hours, regarding Lieutenant General James H. Dickinson, United States Army, becoming approved for the position of the Commander of United States Space Command. He is currently the Vice Commander of this armed service.

General Jay Raymond, U.S. Air Force, is currently the Commander of both U.S. Space Command and U.S. Space Force.

General James H. Dickinson

According to his official bio, General Dickinson previously served as the commander of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense.

His prior command assignments include Commander, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command (AAMDC); Commander, 94th AAMDC; Brigade Commander, 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Eighth United States Army, Republic of Korea and Battalion Commander, 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery, Fort Bliss, Texas, where the battalion deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

His key staff assignments include the Chief of Staff, U.S. Strategic Command; Director for Test for the Missile Defense Agency; Deputy The Inspector General, Office of the Secretary of the Army; Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Command Center, J-3, Joint Staff; Chief, Commander’s Initiatives Group, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command, Republic of Korea; Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command; Senior Emergency Actions Officer and Senior Operations Officer, National Military Command Center, J-3, Joint Staff; Operations Officer, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade; and Operations Officer, 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery, Operation Southern Watch, Saudi Arabia.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Distinguished Service Medals, three Defense Superior Service Medals, three Legion of Merits, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, four Army Achievement Medals, Parachutist Badge, Master Space Badge, and Joint and Army Staff Identification Badges.
