In situations far away from the nearest trauma level 1 hospital, medical air evacuation [Medevac] with live broadband VSAT communication is a life saver.
Wide band communication between helicopter medical crew and the hospital is essential in the first “Golden Hour” of the event. Studies indicate that the survival rate is higher if the correct treatment is given during the first hour from the onset of the event.
In a Medevac service, the probability of surviving the event and recovering is heavily dependent upon the support of hospital experts, until arrival at the trauma level 1 hospital. Hence the work of Medevac team with the hospital team through the live broadband VSAT communication service is a life saver.
The demos occurred at LAHAK aviation in June of 2020 and included:
- Intelsat service: 2MB IB / 2MB OB on 60°E – 33e, symmetrical internet connectivity on board the helicopter. Intelsat service is by far better performance and cost effective compering to other solutions.
- Gilat Telecom ground station: 2.4m dish, MOST propriety 19” modem and internet connectivity.
- MOST MKu30H antenna and IDU [Ku BUC, MOST propriety airborne modem].
Executive Comment
MOST CEO, Zack Berejik, said, “MOST supply broadband solutions for fixed wing aircrafts and UAV’s for many years. Now – after years of R&D – we offer In Flight Connectivity [IFC] for rotary wing aircrafts. MKu30H expends rotary wing operation envelop and capabilities to new boundaries we couldn’t offer before. We are excited to offer together with our partners in Intelsat Globalized Network and Gilat telecom, products and services that push the limits of VSAT communication performance in variety of fixed wing aircrafts and rotary wing aircrafts.
